Branding and Identity
I believe that a brand needs to have a simple mark with a complex message. There needs to be theory behind every mark and every mark needs to be able to function differently

The Conservatory Music Hall
The Conservatory is one of the oldest still-running music venues in the state. Up until this past year, the Conservatory was falling apart and was on the verge of closing until local promoters started booking popular bands and bringing in a new crowd to the venue. Now with a new generation keeping the venue alive, the Conservatory needed a new identity for its customers to connect with. I chose to create a new mark, business system, commercial, and poster design guidelines to help The Conservatory create a new identity for itself as a place to relax and listen to music. I wanted the mark to have a clean-cut, classy style that was a little “off.” The idea was to have a punk rock feel mixed with an almost ironic yet classy business men style. The actual mark was supposed to represent not only the sound waves coming off a speaker cone but also an eyeball. The Conservatory is known in Oklahoma City for it’s graffitied walls mostly consisting of aliens and eyeballs. Instead of trying to represent the word ‘conservatory’ visually I decided to use imagery that the regulars could appreciate.

98th Arts Exhibition
This branding assignment was created in Fall 2011 for OU's Fred Jones Jr. 98th Annual School of Art and Art History Student Exhibition. Logos were created and then implemented into the interior design of the museum as well as online and print advertising.

Open Road Diner
Route 66 has been a key component of classic Americana and the recent revival of grassroots culture has resparked the imagination of Americans everywhere to create things that remind us of “the good old days.” Open Road Diner was a reimagination of the classic 40’s and 50’s style Route 66 diners but unfortunately these establishments conjur up images of poodle skirts, broken jukeboxes and an overall messy atmosphere. My branding and identity idea for Open Road Diner was to create a fresh new look using components from 40’s and 50’s design and culture with classic typefaces and updated colors. I wanted the enviroment to be more upscale and fun while not seeming kitchy.

Old Science Hall - EGD
The Old Science Hall is the oldest building on the University of Oklahoma's Norman Campus. In 2009, it was renovated and my partner Sarah Eskew and I thought this would be the perfect time to create some new signage for the building. The Old Science Hall houses four entirely different departments including Film and Video, Drama, Theater, and the OU Study Abroad Program and the rooms are constantly shifting around from department to department. We decided to create a color scheme that would act as wayfinding for the building. Each department was given a color and depending on the location of the department, that would become the color for the floor helping to cut down on getting lost inside the building.

OU Film Program
The University of Oklahoma Film Program is a program where the Arts Department hosts an evening where they show two classic films back to back in the Union once a month. I was supposed to create one poster per showing that had pieces from each movie cleverly interacting with each other. I thought that particular project would allow me to work with typography and actual images. I also decided that I would try to make the posters in a modern style with classic serigraphy influence. I tried to use as very few colors as possible and I had to teach myself how to use halftones to add depth and variation in color to make the poster seem more complex than it actually was.

The Wayward Gentleman: Wine Identity and Packaging
The overall concept of The Wayward Gentleman was to create a brand of wine that was a mixture of a high-end product and humor. The final product was packaged in distressed brown paper bags as an homage to winos everywhere. Having the paper bag exterior allowed me to have complete freedom on the actual bottle and make each one different but still connected throughout the layout of each seperate type of wine. Each label was screenprinted with a different photograph and placement of the type logo and different colored sticker. On the bottom of each label was a list of food pairings that would bring out the flavor of each one. As an added bonus, I made sure to add one food pairing that didn’t work with the wine. I wanted this project to showcase my style of humor with high quality design and to prove that just because it is funny doesn’t mean that it has to look bad.

Concert Posters
One of my favorite things to do is create concert posters for local bands. I enjoy the challenge of working with type and my own personal illustration style to make fun and informative posters.

Motion
Motion is an interesting medium to work with. Unlike print, the element of time is added to the formula making it even more of a challenge.
